Diversifying Boardrooms: e.l.f. Beauty's Bold Move
In a bold move to challenge the lack of diversity in corporate boardrooms, e.l.f. Beauty has launched its latest campaign, "So Many Dicks." Led by Chairman and CEO Tarang Amin, the beauty brand is on a mission to shake up the status quo and ensure that women and diverse groups have a seat at the table.
Partnering with purpose-driven agency OBERLAND, e.l.f. Beauty's campaign sheds light on the statistics surrounding the dominance of men, specifically those named Richard, Rick, and Dick, on corporate boards. Despite progress in recent years, the numbers reveal that women and minority groups are still vastly underrepresented in these influential positions.
566 men named Richard, Rick, or Dick dominate public company boards, overshadowing women and minority representation.
Black and Asian women's representation barely surpasses that of men named Dick, with only 806 Black Women and 774 Asian Women on these boards.
Just 283 Hispanic Women make up half the number of men named Dick.
There are 19 times more men named Dick than the 29 women of Middle Eastern descent, and only 3 Native American Women serving on these boards.
The campaign's name, "So Many Dicks," is a playful yet pointed jab at the lack of diversity, sparking conversations and raising awareness about the issue. Through a combination of social media engagement and eye-catching out-of-home advertising, e.l.f. Beauty is amplifying its message and calling for meaningful change.
But e.l.f. Beauty isn't just talking the talk—it's leading by example. The brand's own Board of Directors is a testament to its commitment to diversity and inclusion, with a makeup that reflects a wide range of perspectives and backgrounds. By championing diversity at the highest levels of leadership, e.l.f. Beauty is setting a new standard for corporate governance.
As the campaign gains momentum, e.l.f. Beauty hopes to inspire other companies to follow suit and embrace diversity in all its forms.
