UFOs and URLs: Squarespace’s Super Bowl Ad

This past weekend marked the 58th Super Bowl, and while we loved watching Arnold Schwarzenegger belt out the State Farm jingle and Ben Affleck rap about his Dunkin’ order, one advertisement stood out to us as marketers (and website designers!).

Squarespace took advantage of the Super Bowl’s massive audience to deliver a compelling message about the importance of website building and online visibility. Their advertisement featured an alien invasion, with people too busy looking at their phones to even glance up to notice.

The ad, featuring Martin Scorsese, humorously portrayed individuals scrolling past proof of alien encounters, watching cat videos, and engaging with their devices while a UFO hovered above. It wasn’t until the aliens hijacked their screens with a website titled “Hello Down There” that people finally looked up and took notice.

As the tagline says at the end of the 37-second video, “A website makes it real.”

Squarespace cleverly used the concept of an alien invasion to underscore the importance of establishing an online presence through website creation.

The ad not only entertained but also effectively conveyed Squarespace’s core message: in today’s digital age, having a website is essential for businesses and individuals alike. It showcased the platform’s ability to empower users to create professional and impactful online spaces.

Squarespace’s Super Bowl ad served as a reminder of the importance of embracing digital tools and establishing a strong online presence. In a world where digital visibility is paramount, building a website is not just an option; it’s a necessity for success!
